Clay Mentoring

£1,900.00

Guided Practice - Hand building Organic Form

Beginning March 10th

8 weeks of guided mentoring with Sarah

Approach

We begin by listening to the clay, developing a sensitive dialogue through touch and presence. Through ancient practices, we shape organic forms, allowing our hands, our intuitive tools to create 3 dimensionally.

Alongside this, I guide you to become aware of your breath - its rhythmic rise & fall as a bridge to equanimity. From this grounding light , making becomes meditative and responsive - cultivating a process where material, movement and emotion meet as living, expressive form.

How we move through the weeks

  • Coiling and moving intuitively with the nature of clay - strengthening hand building techniques.

  • Developing your clay practice, through self enquiry - expressiveness & embracing imperfections.

  • Embodied clay practice - self compassion, meeting yourself wherever you are at.

  • Foraging & ecology.

  • Journaling, sketching.

Practical notes

You have the quiet of your own space - freedom & choice of material.

Sessions are held weekly so we can come together wherever we may wander ( time arranged after booking in)

You decide how and when you would like to create for yourself in the in-between days.

With my full attention, 60 minute mentorship sessions are held on Mondays and Tuesdays (UK time), with flexibility for international artists.

Once your place is confirmed, we agree upon a consistent weekly time, allowing continuity and depth to unfold across the eight weeks.

What you will need to get started -

Access to a laptop & zoom .

You are initially encouraged to work with a grogged hand-building clay, chosen for its strength and responsiveness. Over the course of the mentorship, you may use 2- 5 x 12 kg bags of clay, depending on the scale of your work.

Access to a kiln is recommended should you wish to bring pieces to completion, though it is not essential.

Suggested studio tools: (don’t worry if you dont have these)

  • Banding wheel, or something for gently spinning your work as you coil .

  • Metal kidneys. sponges etc

  • Paddle and anvil for shaping and contouring form.

  • Round wooden batts or boards (approx. 30cm- 40 cm )

  • Sketchbook.

  • Water and a clear working surface.
